Hello everyone just joined and looking forward to communicating with you all.

Hi. Welcome here.

Any one out there read Sven Hassall

Yes, I am sure stevey14/88 mentioned him to be one of his favorite.

Hi.
Sven Hassel. yep read most of them. A great war writer.

Ken

I own several. I even have the “Wheels of Terror” movie (NTSC). I thought I read somewhere that the books were “debunked”.

how come you’ve only just joined, have you recently discovered this

they are good books, you get a different perspective of the german soldiers lot

Ken I agree, they are all good reads

Welcome Joker, what have u to say

Thanks

yeah the books are now out of print, you can get more info from portaskitchen.com

daran2510, maybe you should use the PM option or something?!?

Whilst a good read they are only a more violent version of Battle picture library comics. If you read them all Sven was in Cassino/Normandy/Warsaw all within about a month not to mention Moscow/Stalingrad and Yugoslavia. His penal unit has Panthers/Tigers even King Tigers. My memory is a bit vague but I think Barcelona dies twice and the death of the Old Man is very similar to Katt’s in All quiet on the Western Front. That said they are one of the better descriptions of Army life and combat. I believe Hassel was at least someone who knew WWII vets if not actually one. There is one website that has him down as a a gestapo agent and bike thief. I don’t know. I do know that my generation read every word with relish and most of us used that as a stepping stone to more serious research.

Welcome all you newcomers! Flame, who is this Sven Hassel? And if stevey would count him as favorite, would I want to be interested?

Navyson, I read a lot of stuff about WW2, both technical literature and novels, but I heard of this Sven Hassell guy by comments of this site for the first time. He is not that popular in Germany and as far as I know very little of his works have been translated into german language, if any…

You’ve never heard of Hassel ! Shame on you. Google him or
