New members topic- Introduce yourself here:

Well done, that man!

We donā€™t have a problem with that opinion.

I didnā€™t like chastising you for promoting a book which has personal significance for you and which might interest some forum members, but weā€™ve had problems with authors descending from the clouds to inform us in their first few posts about their magnum opus with a view to sales and never posting a bloody thing of any value to the forum.

Perhaps you might like to inform us in the appropriate section of the forum about some of your grandfatherā€™s exeperiences, where it would be appropriate to cite your book purely as a reference with no commercial overtones.

My name is jodschamber and my Father never discussed his history during 1944 to 1945 in the South West Pacific. When I was just a child he would sing to the family Sea Bee songs and some other songs. But he never wanted to discuss his time there and I did not find his photo album until after he passed away. One of my nephews has the medals that he received while during the war. I am slowly uploading the photoā€™s. He was in the 6th Company Sea Bees during 1944 and 1945. I believe his job was the person you go to for parts at the camp store. Which later led to his long career with Baker & Hamilton as a Hardware Sales Rep throughout California, Oregon and Nevada. Nice to meet every one.

I have over fifty photoā€™s to upload and I will be back later today to finish. Most of the pictures have peoples names on the photoā€™s if not during inspection on the parade ground. Thanks.

Hi Folks,

I wasnā€™t in WWII, Gracias a Dios, too young. At 60 itā€™s not too often I get to say ā€œtoo youngā€. I do have an uncle, John Milmine, born in Montreal, who lost his life within site of home as his ship was approaching Montreal and was torpedoed.

A while back I moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina and today I heard that there were Argentinians fighting with the RAF and RCAF while watching the news when an article entitled: ā€œFuimos HĆ©roesā€ (We were Heroes) was shown. I was surprised to say the least. A quick Google search and I found this thread, Argentine-British 164 Squadron <<Firmes Volamos>> started in 2005. And Iā€™m betting that ā€œEagleā€ was one of the people I saw interviewed, would be nice if it was so.

One that I know was interviewed, Kent Charney, because of his picture he showed seen here. Nice to know he is still around.

Have a nice day.
Bruce

Good day to you.

I had a grandfather who served as a pilot in the Pacific, his brother was in Europe. Sadly, they never talked about their career, particularly, since my great-uncle died years before I was born. And after my grandfather died, we lost his house to taxes, so virtually everything involving their service was lost.:(

I do remember a photo of him in front of his plane, I canā€™t remember if we still have it. If I find it, Iā€™ll post it. I think itā€™s black & white though. :frowning: But he looked real cool, a bit like an Italian-American Clark Gable.

My name is Art and my grandfather was a forward observer/scout for the artillery battalion in the 104th Infantry Division and survived the war, but didnā€™t like to talk about it much. My great uncle was a bombardier who first served in the Pacific (from Hickam) during Midway and then transferred to England where he flew on 17ā€™s for the 306th BG, 368th BS from itā€™s inception until he was KIA returning from Wilhelmshaven on his 24th mission. I am happy to have joined this forum.

On April 18, 1943, my father, Clayton Curtis, was a 19-year-old P-38 fighter pilot with the 339th Fighter Group. He was one of eighteen such pilots tasked with shooting down Admiral Isoruku Yamamoto that day. My father was shot down instead off Japanese-held Green Island (one of the Green Islands?). Uninjured, he escaped his airplane (whose name I forget) and swam to shore. For thirty-eight days and twelve hours he hid from Japanese patrols and survived by eating ā€œbugs and lizards.ā€ He is now 85 and declining, but still strong-minded and able to remember his World War II experiences. On my fatherā€™s behalf, I am interested in contacting any of the other eighteen P-38 pilots of the 339th Fighter Group who may still be alive and able to communicate through me with him.

Hello to all. I will be looking forward to furthering my education through the use of this forum.

Hello, I have a personal friend that had a uncle in the German army during WWII. I have little basic info. All I have at this moment is that his rank was Colonal and his last name was Lingner. Iā€™m sure this is a long shot but if anyone has any type of information in reference to Col.Lingner , I would love to hear from you. Thank you.

Hello

Twin brother Konrad Maria Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melitta_Schenk_GrƤfin_von_Stauffenberg
Kaksoisveljen vaimo Melitta Schenk GrƤfin von Stauffenberg, born Melitta Schiller (9 January 1903 8 April 1945), was a German aviatrix before and during World War II. Melitta was born in Krotoschin, Prussia. Her father was Michael Schiller, son of a Jewish fur-trading family, who had become a Protestant while young.

ā€œ21 years later in 1939 when World War II started JOSEPH Gebhard Himmler made an effort to stay out of the war, when his sons were all three drafted, JOSEPH made an effort to keep tabs on them, using his old WWI connections he worked very closely with the administration to try and keep his sons from getting killed in the fighting. At this point JOSEPH was so deadened to emotion, his loss of family, friends, and loved ones over the years making JOSEPH an angry, bitter man. He did send his surviving daughter, Irmina, to Britan before the war really got started, he smuggled her out of the country to protect her from the persecution of Jews.ā€

Was Himmler jew?

msb3850. In answer to your query there was a an Officer in the German Armed Forces during WW2. His name was Standartenfuhrer (Colonel) HANS LINGNER. He was the divisional Commander of the 17th SS Panzer Grenadier Division 'Gotz von Berlichingen from 15 November 1944 until 9 January 1945 when he was taken prisoner by US forces. I am wondering if this is the same individual that you are trying to research?

Hi, friends
Iā€™m from Brazil and this is my first msg.
Iā€™m an ex-member of Brazilian Air Force where I worked fro 30 years, from 1960 to 1988.
During my active service, I worked with or flew in such airplanes like T-6, Gloster F8, C-47, Huey, B-25, etc.
Now retired, my hobby is modelling the aircrafts with some relationship with Brazil, military (1/72) and commercial (1/144). I begun to make or assemble my models in 1954, from scratch or plastic kits.
I hope to be useful to any friend who need pictures or information about Brazilian Air Force.
Regards to all.
Alva
