and welcome back FF. Maybe i should work on the movie review that i have promised a long time ago. Its about world war 2 from the communists party of the chinese’s POV.
To be perfectly frank, things are shit.
Things have gone from worse to even worser! The whole country is an armed camp and the ghost of Vietnam hovers over everything. The body count is back in fashion and more good people die every day. Good people that are far better than the fate they deserve. This war is ruining our armed forces (Both brits and US) and is creating a world of hurt for our future.
The Borders are porous, the common people hate us with a passion for various reasons and more importantly the politicians are all corrupt and belong to the various factions.
Apart from that, I have a really good suntan!

That is something that one can suspect, but is other thing hear this from you because you actually there. Very dark scenery.
Very dark indeed Panzer. I was there for 30 days and every day I was either shot at or Mortared or Rocketed. I had to sleep (if you can call it that) in my Body Armour. I was in the US sector and I have to say that the US troops have the hardest time ever. I have nothing but admiration for the guys that go out day after day when their comrades have been killed on the same roads. We called in airstikes every day, sometimes for 10-12 hours. The insurgents are smart, we are smarter, but they are smart enough to kill a few US guys every day.
Road bombs, side road bombs, suicide bombs, suicide car bombs, suicide Donkeys, suicide bicycles, cell phone suicide bombs, mortars, snipers, RPGs. Ive seen the lot. Before it was occasional, now it is constant. Even in secure base areas you are not allowed to move unless in pairs for fear of kidnap by insurgents who are supposed to be working for us.
That s terrible. Honestly in this war with no fronts an conventional army seems to have not many chances of succes

Thanks for giving us some insight. Natually we see alot on the news but its always different to hear it from people that are there. Take care of yourself and hopefully the powers that be will get your ass out of there soon.
I am on travel so little time to connect for the next 2 or 3 days, watch out the russian members, they are pretty wild lately.

Back again, by the way, somebody have seen Firefly connected, yesterday I saw CNN that said 4 UK soldiers were killed in Basra, I am worry about all the guys here who are in Irak.

Ive been in the UK for a while (3 weeks) had some leave and now on Thursday I’m off to US Desert. Seems like I am destined for the desert. Anyway I will be in US for 1 month, eating more sand. I should be around for some of the time, but a lot of the time I will be out in the sandy stuff.
After I come back I am posted to a new duty station, my new job involves training reservists so apart from moving home, getting new schools for my kids and starting a new job, I may just be around a lot more.
However I think I will be going to Afghanistan in the new year, so I will keep you posted.
Anyway, from Thursday I may be absent for a while.
Hopefully the Hotel I will be staying in has wireless.
Hope you have a safe trip. Maybe youll get a chance to go to Vegas! Watch out for the local wild life and any Americans with live ordinance.
