Do spammers just come on for an moment and leave there crappy information on new posts threads and just leave?

We had a temporary protocol, the last time we were spammed like this, where posters couldn’t start a thread unless they posted for five to 10 times in existing threads…

It seems like this protocol should be reinstated…

I’ve noticed that this keeps happening in the Games section… Maybe a topic stop in that section, with a mod check for new topics being posted there?

<shrugs> none of the mods currently about have the power to do any of that, unfortunately. I think General Sandworm probably does - but he’s extremely busy in real life right now and can’t. Procyon (the new site owner) certainly has the power, but again I’m not sure if he has the time to fix the problem.

Ok, I was just wondering, but putting the mod approval for new topics wouldn’t be bad, for a while, until the spam wave hits its peak and crashes down again.

I’m working on the issues. Talking to Nick (previous owner) to see how it was before.

Hi PDF, I took your advice and tried to subscribe to the Puritan Board Website and the following response is what I received back from the Administrator!!..I post it for the purposes of pointing out that other websites make it more difficult to become a memebr…I mean, like they want me to write a 2000 word essay, before they can approve my membership. Who’s got time for that!..Thank god this website is easier to join, although perhaps some modifications in membership applications would reduce porn spam etc…anyways thanks for suggesting it PDF, I know feel better as a member of this forum!!

Dear Herman2,

Unfortunately your registration at The PuritanBoard did not meet our membership requirements. You may review the forum rules section more thoroughly to determine Confessional requirements for forum membership. Given the number of applications we process, we don’t have the time to interact on each application denied.

There are a few reasons why your rejection may not be on Confessional grounds and you may wish to consider re-applying. First, sometimes the rejection is on the basis that the Biography was insufficient to determine if you meet the Board requirements. As an example, if you chose “Other” for your Confession and did not include detailed information that gave explanation then your application is rejected immediately. Secondly, although we state that we’re interested in information regarding Confessional subscription in the Biography, some people use the massive 2000 character limit to tell their life story. These stories are interesting but if you never get around to convincing us that you are, in fact, Reformed then we cannot approve your application. Third, some cases involve those who claim to subscribe to a paedobaptist Confession but attend a credobaptist Church. Finally, some cases have a Confession selected but give little information as to why the individual is involved in a non-Reformed denomination or parachurch organization.

We are very careful to be explicit both in our rules and in the application what we are looking for and simply don’t have the time, given volume of applications received, to interact on applications if they do not pass muster. We’ve worked hard at making the application very straightforward so we are able to approve/reject quickly given our limited time. We hope you understand.

You are welcome to re-apply in the future if your Church membership or confessional alignment makes you eligible for participation. You may also re-apply if you believe the reason why your application was rejected is because you failed to carefully read the application form as you were filling it out.

Regards,
The PuritanBoard

Man, that’s hillarious!

Yup, that’s what I thought too.

A sly spammer!

Not all that sly, but surprisingly so for a machine. “Occupation: Poland” is a bit of a giveaway, even on a WW2 site.

Yeah, that’s what tipped me off. The thread they started sounded pretty normal. (for being computer generated)
