Things that piss me off!

Hahaha, good luck mate.

I can hardly imagine the taste will improve!:-?

Guinness has TASTE? I’ve always found it rather bland!

A couple of years ago it was “cool” to drink Guiness over here and British-style pubs mushroomed. Although these places had a cozy ambiance I couldn’t follow the Guiness-hype and preferred Kilkenny instead.

Im very fond of Caffreys. But a few years ago they reduced the strength and it affected the taste (and the effect).A strange thing is its quite hard to get in Belfast. But here in Scotland its pretty easy to get.

Give me some names of some better brews, and I’ll see if I can find them over here in the States. I’m always interested in trying different beers. I’ll have to look for Kilkenneys that Flamethrowerguy mentioned. I’ve not noticed it before. Nor the Caffreys that boyne water mentioned.

Ireland makes very, very few beers simply because Guinness has squashed them all in recent years. It’s actually a pet hate of an Irish friend of mine (who rather likes his Ale and now lives over here).

If you want a decent stout that you can taste the roast in, find this: http://www.coopers.com.au/beerShow.php?id=630 It’s a lot better than Guinness, both the locally brewed version here and the imported one. Same withh Kilkenneys and Caffreys. At least to my taste, as I find the others a bit on the light side. Then again, a lot of Australians are fond of bitter beers rather than the lighter pilseners and lagers, so our palates are accustomed to stronger flavours, like this: http://www.coopers.com.au/beerShow.php?id=127 or this, which might be the best selling label in Australia (I confess I had a few of them tonight) http://www.fostersaustralia.com.au/enjoy/beer/victoria_bitter.htm

Well, sadly, it looks like Caffreys is only available in Canada over here. I looked it up to see where it might be sold and Coors owns it. They don’t market it because they already have Killians Irish Red in the States. Every time I bring up Kilkennys, it’s sold in Canada too. It does mention Smithwicks when I bring up Kilkennys, so I’m wondering if that might be the import version? Which I’ve tried and like the taste. I haven’t found Coopers either, but I’ll keep looking because the pic of the Extra Stout version is making me salivate. Now, I’ve had the big oil can size of Fosters which I liked also. And there’s one in a green can called Fosters Special Bitter which I like too. Is that the same as Victorias Bitter? Or is that something I need to keep looking for? Ah…what fun, looking up beer on a Saturday morning.

PDF, if you are coming to America, there are some very good tho small brewers who market all manner of Beers and Ales. you may find one of their offerings suitable to your pallet. Most well stocked shops, and even grocery stores will have a good selection available. And since there are so many to choose from, it will be a pleasant(if not tipsy) experiment to discover which you may prefer.

I agree and prefer Beamish Stout. Guinness does taste pretty good out of a nice tap though…

I myself like an India Pale Ale style, Sierra Nevada makes a particularity good one:

Your purveyors of the amber liquid must be considerably more tolerant than ours.

Here, if you grab a bottle or can of an unknown brand and pop a top to taste it in the shop, they expect you to pay for it. Bastards!

I think we’ve had a version of this conversation before.

But, due to beer ingestion, one or both of us can’t remember it.

This is a nice pale ale http://www.fostersaustralia.com.au/enjoy/beer/cascadepaleale.htm but you probably can’t get it in America.

We’re lucky to get it in Australia as it comes from Tasmania, which is the Jex map down the bottom of Australia where, if the film Deliverance was going to be based in Australia, you’d be overwhelmed with cast members. Make him squeal like a pig? Tasmanians don’t even know what a pig is.

Tasmanians are so dumb that for years after the rest of the world had screw crown tops on beer, they didn’t. It used to rip my hands up trying to drink their lovely brews.

As I’ll be staying with my girlfriend’s parents, that may prove a little awkward

Uhm, no German beer has screw crown tops. This would be considered unnacceptable and barbaric!

I always liked the ceramic stopper bottles, resealable, and the washers were also good for fixing a leaky faucet in a pinch.

Yes, the “plopp” bottles are classic!

The only beer I can remember seeing with that kind of top is Grolsch. I think it’s a Dutch beer.

Right, Grolsch is probably the best Dutch beer IMO and the only one which is brewed according to the German beer purity law from 1516!
