Panzer projects & prototypes.

The German Army did waste a lot of money, time and resources on their funny ideas. I would rather improve the Tiger tank and the Panther to make them better in the field than to waste money on stupid stuff, but if you look even at the cold war the stuff that came out of it is ridicules.

I dont know… he tiger was a waste of rescorces, it was a very expensive tank like most othe german tanks. (dont get me wrong, I loke the tiger)

Given the kill ratio per tank i would NOT call Tigers a resource waste

well, this is always the wrong argumentation. since the germans lost steadily their crews in combat and mostly could not replace them, it made sense to give them few better/more expensive tanks than to produce more cheap tanks that could not be manned.

so all in all the “waste” of recources was not a sign of stupid nazi-exaggeration, it was just the right way to deal with the current odds.

jens

Looks like the Wespe execpt the main gun is removed.

Nice Avatar, Panzer 228! The P.1500 monster from “My Tank Is Fight”.
Do you think that the monster was a Schwere Gustav on tracks or the thing from My tank is Fight?

It is a Schwere Gustav on tracks like you said.

I have two nice non-german example of “waste of resources”

The mistakes or “overengineering” in the german design are only remarked mostly because Germany lost the war, however the average quality and fighting capabilities of the german panzer both series and projects were superior to the average of the allied designs.

Uh, dos any of you have drawings of flakzwilling turrets for maus or E-100?

Here you got, 8,8 cm Flakzwilling 41 for Maus, however I have my reservations about this, I believe this is more an invention of an avid modeller than actual german design.

I mean side/top wiews.

Well…you cant have it all man.

Um, the M-2 wasn’t really a “waste of resources” as it was a stop-gap tank designed for training in an army that had few pre-War tank designs…And at 94 tanks built, it was but a blip in US production potential. The tank was useless in a direct combat role, save for maybe the Pacific, but it gave invaluable experience not only to the Armored Corp, but also to designers as well…

Well…you cant have it all man.

yeah… too bad for me. I should contend with the regular version.

And at 94 tanks built, it was but a blip in US production potential.

I tough there were 200, aniway a goof choice to not manufacture th 1000 ordered, the thing looks like a japanese AFV.

you mean special tractor…

I mean a useless tank.

Mittlerer Kamfpanzer für Ausland:

Between 1936-39 Krupp evaluated the possibilities to manufacture a special design for foreign sales. The objetive of this design was to obtain a final product better than the tanks sold at that time ( Renault R-35, Skoda TNH, Vickers Light and medium).

However the German High Command gave strict order that not to use the latest development in Gunsight, engine cooling, armored hinges and vision ports technology.
Despite the bureocratic shorcomings the tank was a sound design with a maximum armor of 25 mm at the frontal plates and 18 mm at the sides.

M.K.A as completed in january 1940.

The best characteristic was the Krupp specially designed 50mm gun and 50 calibres in lenght. In fact the muzzle velocity of 750 m/s allowed to penetrate more armor than the gun of the main battle tank in Germany in that time, the Panzer III. This weapon was based in the one used by the russian T-26 tanks captured by the Legion Condor in the Spanish Civil war.

In his final shape the M.K.A was proposed as alternative design for friendly countries like Italy, Japan, nad Spain ( particulaty in japan the purchase of the M.K.A would be a great improvement over the local designs)

A single prototype was completed in january 1940, no further development was pursued because the needs of the german tanks forces for standar panzerkampfwagens.

Mittlerer Kamfpanzer für ausland, medium tank for export.

Weight: 12.100 kg.

Lenght: 5,1 meters.

width: 2,38 meters.

Armor thickness: max 25 mm, min 10 mm.

Engine : Maybach 6 cilinders HL 76 190 hp.

Speed. 42 km/h

Yeah, the japanese army would have improved if they imported that panzer. better than “special tractors” and medium and heavy tanks you can put on the back of a sherman.

Indeed, by the way I need to correct some data about the M.K.A, the main gun was 45 mm in caliber and the engine was not the HL 76 but a V8 Maybach VGS 155 hp, the HL 76 was the projected engine but never was completed.

The cartrigde case lenght of the experimental Krupp 4,5 cm K.w.K was 323 mm.
