Ha! Wouldn’t be the first time. But then, the forum is an escape from the women-folk at times as you surely know…
I recall running around in Army Intelligence as if we were James Bond when we were probably more like a bunch of nerds being brushed off by the university girls of D.C. who thought us little different than the typical knuckle-dragger, Army-dope crude caricature that whistled and howled at them like construction workers. If they were dumb girls, they’d no idea what “Army Intelligence” (all its delicious ironies) meant and clearly weren’t impressed to our chagrin. And if they were worldly political science majors or something, they thought we were training death squads and overthrowing democratic minded Marxist leaders in Central America and were even less impressed…
Thats why the Us military adopted insurgency training for intel people. It was really for getting girls, but on occasion, if needed, could be used to destabilize a country.
Yeah, but in the end the country they tended to destabilise most with their cunning plans was the US.
If PK thought that was true, he’d offer you his mother and sister in gratitude.
You could do alright. There has to be one normal-looking person in his family.
Been away all week sailing, just got back and realised I should have mentioned it in this thread. Oops. Anything exciting happen while I was away?
I’ll be away for a couple weeks starting the 16th September, I’ll check in most days but cant guarantee.
Couple of weeks? That’s kind of vague.
Dunno how long exactly, no more than two weeks. No adventuring this time, just business.(but I may find something to photograph.)
I’ll be leaving tonight for a trip to Mallorca/Spain, also known as Germany’s 17th federal state or our last remaining colony. Back on early monday, since I’m going with the blokes of my bowling team I’ll hopefully be sobered up around tuesday.
One more thing, can anyone watch after the photo site every now and then. There were some gross gay porn uploads in the last couple of days. Long-gone offspring-Nazi and wannabe-German stevey1488 seems to be back with a vengeance from beyond. He calls himself stevey247 now but he’s not registered yet, he just mentions that in the photo credits/source. Thanx a bunch.
yeah I’m taking a regular look.
I’ve just bought a house (picked up the keys today) and it needs a lot of work before I can move in, so I may be somewhat intermittent on here until after Christmas.
And I’m away with the army for the next two weeks, so won’t be about at all from tomorrow until about the 18th…
Congrats
Kind of a bummer after just getting a house!
Tell me about it! Pretty sure I’ll be leaving at the end of this year - just don’t really want to do this any more.
It becomes very burdensome if you have a real career or school obligations. I had to leave after I got a bit fed-up, not least of which because I was in kind of a shit, boring unit featuring rampant poor leadership from both officers and senior NCO’s…
But I miss it to this day on some level, and probably will go back circumstances permitting…
All true.
My unit suffered in the conscription era from people who joined a reserve unit to avoid any chance of going to Vietnam or just to avoid two years of full time service, but, unlike the conscripts who went to Vietnam, they were almost all lazy bastards who did sweet FA and rarely turned up for any serious training, which stuffed up the training. Worst of all, although it was a military offence which should have been prosecuted, nobody in the leadership ever did anything about it.
I was also doing night school to complete mature age high school for university entry, which most others in my unit weren’t.
I was also doing as a reasonable amount of pretty much compulsory overtime at work. I must be one of the very few people threatened with being charged under the Public Service Act for refusing to work overtime. Which was pretty ironic as the lazy bastards in my unit weren’t even charged for refusing to do even their basic obligation.
Plus there was also a sheila, who is now my wife. And pdf27 is heading in that direction (i.e. getting married, not getting on with my wife. :D).
In the end something has to give and, if it’s military training which unlike other things isn’t really leading anywhere in the short term as in a war, then military training is often the most time consuming component with the least long term benefit, so it goes.
I had a dream about that the other night, probably because my son is about to start his reserve basic training.
Precisely why my old unit would want a fat, flaccid, and flatulent old bloke is beyond me, but it made sense in my dream.
Probably more sense than it makes in real life for the very few people prepared to accept the burden of voluntary reserve service while trying to juggle other balls in their lives, and more so when the current popular thinking is generally hostile to military service.
Back, feeling rather battered. Second week wasn’t bad (although first week was rather bone), but I’m pretty knackered.
Off for a short vacation to Belgium, starting monday morning. Back on friday.
