Who is that Person? (also open for everyone)

my last guess: Callaghan (Cecil Arthur)
Acting General Officer Commanding 8th Australian Infantry Division (Malaya)

TGR

Not him, but very, very close.

Oh my, God, finally I cached him!
Lieutenant General Henry Gordon Bennett (CB, CMG, DSO)

Bennett decided that it was his duty to escape from Singapore rather than surrender. He handed over command of the 8th Division to Brigadier Cecil Callaghan. With a few junior officers and some local Europeans, Bennett commandeered a sampan at gunpoint and crossed the Strait of Malacca to the east coast of Sumatra, where they transferred to a launch in which they sailed up the Jambi River. They then proceeded on foot to Padang, on the west coast of Sumatra. From there Bennett flew to Java and then to Australia, arriving in Melbourne on 2 March 1942.

I WASalways looking for malay and Singapore, but i missed him…
…and this is, why - he always quoted as lt-gen !!!

“In April 1942 he was promoted to lieutenant general and given command of III Corps in Perth. I”

Anyways, such a good quize!
thanks a lot:
TGR

Perfectly correct.

My photo of him was when he was interviewed by journalists in January 1942 after Australia’s first battle with Japan in Malaya.

A lot of people thought Bennett should have stayed with his troops and even that his escape was a form of desertion.

Bennett said he needed to bring back valuable information about Japanese tactics.

There was a lot of hostility towards him at general staff level.

He never commanded in combat again.

Your turn.

My new enigma had a very interesting and adventurous life.
He was promoted lieutenant-colonel very early, soon after his 30th birthday.
A president collapsed and died in his arms.
He was the last friend staying with a famous field marshal.
A president of another nation was his schoolmate.
A very famous admiral (famous not for sailing activities) dedicated him as a very good college.
He was one of the few survived the battle of word with a generalissimus.
Later he was working for different government agencies of different nations.

Can you identify him?
Can you name the persons/events/agencies I have quoted/listed above?
Can you guess my personal motivation to research his life and career?

Hats off, my dear Mr. Tiger 205: Aladár Antero Zoltán Béla Gyula Arpád Paasonen, head of Finnish WW2 intelligence, and close personal friend of a notable French military leader and later statesman Charles André Joseph Marie de Gaulle.

What a choice!

VERY GOOD in deed!
So, can you follow it answering my “missing” questions:

(small help: my first name is: Zoltán)

Oh, that’s necessary as well? Well, no problem. So here we go:

- A president collapsed and died in his arms.

Indeed. The fourth President of Finland, Mr. Kyösti Kallio, was on his way to his farm after the farewell ceremonies on the evening of December 19, 1940, when he collapsed and died at the Helsinki railway station, before a guard of honor and in the arms of his adjutant, Mr. Aladár Paasonen, and his personal aide-de-camp, colonel Aksel Airo.

- He was the last friend staying with a famous field marshal.

True. Mr. Paasonen belonged to inner circle of marshal Gustav Mannerheim, who trusted his head of intelligence in many ways. Mr. Paassonen was with him in Lausanne, where from spring of 1948 till his death Mannerheim permanently resided.

- He was one of the few survived the battle of word with a generalissimus.

Predictably, my dear Mr. Tiger 205. After all – he was a member of the official Finnish state delegation which participated in the meeting with the Secretary General of the Soviet Communist Party, Joseph Stalin, which was held in the Kremlin on Saturday, October 14th, 1939, consequently being protected by the diplomatic immunity.

- A very famous admiral (famous not for sailing activities) dedicated him as a very good college.

Yes. Shortly before Christmas of 1942 Paasonen travelled to Copenhagen, to meet the head of the Abwehr, admiral Wilhelm Canaris.

- Later he was working for different government agencies of different nations.

Yes, and the CIA was the most prominent among them.

- Can you guess my personal motivation to research his life and career?

Well… This time we are walking a slippery slope. Perhaps because he was born in your hometown, Budapest, on December 11th , 1898, my dear Mr. tiger 205?

Congratulations!
All of your amswers are right!

First I suprised about “Aladár” - when I have studied the Winter War documents years ago - a special Hungarian name (á,é,ő,ű, í are very rare in other languages) so I have realised that his father (Finnish origin) spoke very high level Hungarian (one of the 5 hardest language to learn) and married to a Hungarian lady. (He was an university professor in Budapest).
Interesting enough - Paasonen was a Finnish officer in Finland - BUT he married to a Hungarian lady too!!!

And Paasonen was a quite good “spy” working for the Deuxième Bureau (French secret service) and CIA later.

His life was so interesting that I’m totally suprised not filmed yet!

IT is your turn, so please let we meet your enigma my dear friend!

TGR

Thank you very much my dear Mr. Tiger 205. I hope that my next suggestion will be sufficiently intriguing as well.

The great soldier with a military rank of major general and man of numerous professional duties, although never properly celebrated, lived through a period in which all the contemporary military affairs of our own time had their beginnings.

An exceptionally capable organizer, man of great technical knowledge, a firm believer in the technical progress whose foresight never failed him, he possessed so clear a brain that he dutifully and unswervingly served four completely different states during his lifetime. Not only could he weigh up space and time factors with exactness, but above all he realized how grim caprices of history could be exploited for the benefit of the technical progress.

His endurance was truly remarkable. He possessed a profound sense of duty, and never suffered fools gladly. Outspoken to a degree, he made many enemies and even more friends. As a voluminous coordinator and a profound student of war he cultivated an unshakable self-confidence. He was never elated by success or depressed by failure, which, on the other hand, newer had been caused due to his own failure. Humbug he could not tolerate. Creative head was the basis of his professional service.

Do you recognize this sorrowfully unmerited man, honorable ladies and gentlemen?

Fritz morzik

Alas, my dear Mr. Gumalangi, our mysterious special guest star is not a meritorious general Fritz Morzik. If you take a good look, you will see that those collar tabs and shoulderboards are completely non-German.

However, your perseverance and enthusiasm are absolutely matchless. I really do admire your determination.

well thank you,. noted the unusual eagle? over his chest,.
