Hello - My step father, Buster Hobbs, was a member of the First Special Service Force. He told us many stories of his time in the force - we wish we had recorded them, as he died in 1987. He was 6th Company, 3rd regiment. A great, tough man. You will find a picture of him on an April 1941 Life magazine cover - before he went into the force, he trained horses for the Calvery, before it was disbanded. After the war, he was a top rodeo rider. Since I found out what unit he was in, I have been reading and researching the forces exploits - what an amazing group of men.
I want to welcome the newbies aboard and say hello. shamstime, I started a thread on the 1st SSF here. It’s archived, but enjoy.
My sincere welcome to all the new people here.
hey Flymo, good to see another kilted one here!
Greetings all.
Came across this site by accident while searching for information on non German troops in the WW2 German armed forces.
I’m a big fan of all military history and am looking forward to broadening my knowledge here.
Youve come to the right place!
Hello all, my name is Dan.
My #1 reason for registering here is that I am desperately seeking a photo (color preferred, but ANYTHING will do) of a FW 190 D-9 of Jagdgeschwader 11.
I know something like this is almost impossible to find. Apparently there is gossip that there will be one in a new book by Jerry Crandell.
IF it ever gets published.
Hey all,
I’m 18 years old, and I’m a BIG history buff on the World Wars.
I really like the games Hearts of Iron and Red Orchestra.
Anyways, I’m wondering how many posts I need until I can post in the General area, as I am seeking information on a very elusive Soviet unit, although I might stick around the forums if I have a good time.
Welcome.
The forum and subforums are open to everybody who has signed up, you dont need a high number of post to participate there.
It was saying I hadn’t permision ot post, but now I do.
Thankyou for your quick reply.
What I meant is that I can’t start a new topic, what permissions do I need to do that?
Hi, i’m new member in this forum, i’m 24 years old and from Indonesia.
i’m a world war 2 buff and now i’m working in the government office.
Hi! I’m drawn to this site by my long and abiding interest in WW2 - particularly the European theatre. Aviation and maritime subjects are of prime interest to me and I look forward to being a member of this select community.
Best Rgds to all

Welcome guys
Welcome to one of the greatest sources of ww2 information on the web
I don’t feel so much like the new guy now.
Welcome to even newer members!
Greetings all. I just joined the site today. I came across it by accident a few weeks ago while doing a search on the Polish Resistance. I am a former Marine and a history buff. My main (but not exclusive) interests are WWII and ancient history. I collect firearms (mainly WWII) and WWII Militaria (mainly US and Polish). This looks like a great site and hopefully I’ll be able to add to the discussions.
