Thankee sir
I see a lot of the old crowd is still around - even MoS
My fathers family were deported from east Poland to Siberia in WW2 ,
They came from a village called Jankowce north of Tarnopol ,
My Greatgrand parents came from Zabojki , west of Tarnopol .
http://http://www.kresy.co.uk/tarnopol_area.html.
On the journey to Siberia , My Grandmother and dad’s baby sister
along with other relatives perished. My Grandfather made his way with dad and my uncle to Iran , where they were later sent here to New Zealand.
My Grandfather had joined the Polish 2nd corp and was later killed at San Biagio , Italy.
I’ve been trying to find photo’s of , or around Jankowce and Zabojki which are now part of Ukraine.
All my searching keep coming to deadends , just wondering if anybody out there can help in any way.
cheers
Steve
Welcome aboard…and good luck!
Embarrassing though it is to be beaten to the punch by a Yank: Welcome, again. From across the Tasman.
Hello Wiewiorka!
Welcome! Have you found the location of those vilages on a modern map? It is possible that those villages either do not exist anymore or chnagedthe names.

Hi all
thanks for the welcome,
I have found a couple of modern maps with the villages on them, one has the Polish name and Ukrainian.
The other has the village names spelt how they are pronounced.
I still have’nt been able to find any information about them though.
What I really would like , is to track down photo’s of the Villages and the local landscape.
I have been looking at photo’s of Polish and Ukrainian farmland to get an idea of the countryside , but having photo’s of the actual village’s
would be better.
The results of first search:

Hope to add some more later. Maybe you should contact the webmaster of that page.
Pozdrawiam,
Kovalski
Hi everyone . I am a reasonably new member. I don’t get a chance to get on very often as my fiance hogs the computer.
I live in Queensland, Australia and enjoy shooting ex mil rifles at the local range in comps and as a hunter rifles.
I grew up in a military family and have always appreciated the finer details when it comes to modern history. My current fascination is with the Soviet - Finnish Winter War.
I have read quite a few books on the issue but can’t find much from the Soviet perspective. Would anyone have any ideas or sources they could recommend?
I look forward to chatting, sharing my opinions and hopefully learning from you all.
Cheers
