Hi everyone,

I am from south africa, i am very much interested in news related to BMW’s used during the war, mostly their motorcycles and cars.

I have a few pictures of BMW cars and motorcycles used in the war effort. I am now looking for pictures of BMW sportscars, like 319/1, 328 etc and R75 's.

Anybody with something interesting let me know! I have a few that i can share with somebody thats interested.

Regards

Lukas

Hello, After visiting this forum as a quest I decided to register so I can join as a full member. My name is JohanHerman and I am from the Netherlands. Eventually I can help other members by translating text from Dutch into English. Shortly I am retired so their is plenty of time for my hobby. I am collecting headgear, emblems from the Netherlands Army both in the Netherlands and the Netherlands East Indies between 1945 and 1965. Perhaps it is well known that the Netherlands Army used a lot of English equipment during this period. So perhaps we can help each other and that is what I like. Kind regards, JH

Welcome JoanHerman!..Its nice to meet another Herman!

I am searching for anyone who was in WWII in the 49th Seabee Battalion in the South Pacific and may have served with my dad, Samuel Hackenberger (age 95). I am working to get the Purple Heart he turned down after he was shot and his teeth smashed out by a Japanese solider while on patrol of the catacombs in Guam. The Military says they lost all his medical and other records so we are working hard to find witnesses who are still alive who can document his injuries. Dad was one of the older men serving so I hope there are others still alive who would remember. Anyone have any suggestions for me?
Thanks
Nancy Vachon

Ayup All…

Sorry that i haven’t intro’ed myself here until now. I’m a Plastic Modeller with a big WW2 Interest, including both Materiel, and various Campaigns… My Great Uncle Harry was rescued from Dunkirk, as he was a member of the BEF, and he is always dear to my heart as he was a lovely fella, albeit like so many, loath to discuss the war. He was Invalided out because of extreme shell shock due to being Stuka’ed AT dunkirk, But he was a fun old cove with us kids, and Graciously left me £500 when he died, for which i am eternally grateful. but i love him for much more than that.

Yesterday, my G/F and I visited the National Alrewas Memorial for the first time, as i’m on holiday from work at the moment. It was very moving, especially the section of the Burma Railway, as i had a friend who was involved in the living hell of building it, and was profoundly scarred for the rest of his life FROM being made to work on it.

Let’s hope we dumb-ass Human Beings can move on from banging our heads together sometimes. I look forward to seeing you all on a much more regular basis, as I have SO many questions to ask.

Cheerio !

Welcome to all of you newcomers , hope you will feel nice around here

Hello. A little introduction. I stumbled onto this forum because of my modelling and strategy game interests. History and politics are also present, but not as fanatic as are the two hobbies.
So you can caunt on me in al lot of discussions.

Living in Spain and looking at history of WWI in East Africa, where my father was posted. He also served in Cape Town 118POW Hospital during WWII (too old to go to the front at 55). Awarded 5 medals incl. WWI and WWII. :army:Want to see the rest of Tanganyika Guerilla: E.A Campaign 1914-18 by Maj. J. R. Sibley p52 and on.

Mabuhay!

Hi all, I’d like to hide under the name Ligaya. I’m from the Philippines. My mum’s father was part of the guerrilla forces that fought the Japanese in WW2, while according to our family history my dad’s parents were a doctor and nurse team who worked with the Japanese but stole much-needed medicine for the benefit of other Filipinos, whom they also treated in secret. It’s not the best arrangement, mind, but people do whatever it takes to survive. It does make me sad though that my mother and her siblings all grew up resenting and hating their father, who was a terrible gambler and drunk who abused his family (only 1 of them was born during the war; the rest, including my mum, were born afterwards) due to the effects of the war. We’re from the Philippines; the healing effects of psychology have not been popular until very recently.

I’d like to learn more about WW2. And truth be told, I’d like to gather everyone’s thoughts about the role of the Philippines at the Pacific side of the war. I’d also like to gather your thoughts on the long-overdue compensation being provided by the USA to Filipino and Filipino-American WW2 veterans through the efforts of the Obama administration, which is still a thorny topic in my country. Most of our veterans are dying (all my grandparents have passed on) and it has been seen as a case of “too little, too late.” If you’d rather discuss relatively safer topics with me like WW2 fashion (I do costuming on the side, though lately I haven’t had the time) and Philippine guerrilla warfare, I’m all ears and eyes for that too.

hello everyone. just joined this morning. where do you find the avatars in your posts???:

Are you asking how to display an avatar?

yes i am thank you

I am a Ex US Army guy, that was stationed in Germany 2 times. My first time was from 1963-1966, when I was stationed in Kassel at Rothwesten Kaserne, (Fritz-Erler-Kaserne), and worked at Waldau Kaserne, (Gerhard Fieseler Werke), which is now part of the Kassel Industrial Park near Lohfelden.

My 2nd time in Germany was from 1972-1975, when I was at Idar
Oberstein, near Baumholder.

I am doing research on Waldau Kaserne
