New members topic- Introduce yourself here:

Greetings to everyone from New Zealand

Hello
Just to say everyone hello and congratulate you all for making such a great and interesting site.
Hope to past here a good time!
My name is JP Vieira and I am an illustrator (including some WWII stuff).
Best regards to all

Thank you, JP. I am going to try to add information about Aggies who served in WWI and WWII. Perhaps Korea and Vietnam. That will be enough to keep me busy for a good while, if I ever finish.

My father was a pilot flying Sunderlands, Catalinas, & Wellingtons in WW2. Sadly he was reported missing over the Red Sea, in 1945, after WW2 had ended, on his way home. His was on 621 Sqdn. I was on 74 Sqdn Lightnings in the 60’s.

Hello to everybody.
My uncle Tom daly served with the 5th Northamptons in WW2. I would like to learn as much about him as possible.
I know he served in N.africa and at Cassino. He left little information about his WW2 service other than for comments that war is bloody and a bad business. He did comment that he he was most annoyed that German snipers took great pride in killing the donkeys bringing up their daily booze ration.

I’m new to this forum and frankly, probably won’t post much because I’m a member of many. When I get a free moment, I try to find new forums, joining them so I can share my stuff.

No, I’m not here to sell things.

I interview air combat veterans and draw their airplanes.

Anyway, I just posted a new story - ā€œMarine Red - the story of a pilot and ā€œhisā€ Corsairā€ - you can’t miss the big yellow arrow calling it out on my homepage.

Nevertheless, I hope you find it interesting and worthy of your time.

Thank you.

Moved to appropriate forum.

Hi Guys,

It has been remiss of myself not to introduce myself sometime ago when I joined this forum - So sorry about that.

Okay, I’m from an army background having served for 27 years in the regular army. Retired from the army and after having a rest period have undertaken to start a small business painting miniatures to supplement my pension.

My passion is military history of all centuries, but I’ve a more deeper passion for the campaigns of the South West Pacific during WW2. I was fortunate to belong to a Peace Monitoring Group stationed on Bougainville back in 2000. From there I developed an admiration for all sides an especially the Japanese soldier. Plenty of metal bling to keep the camera busy though sadly alot of my photos have gone missing. I still have one roll of film to develop which I’ve only just discovered.

I also wargame the period with my own Japanese force alongside my friend with the Aussies. I also have an American USMC Raider outfit, but these aren’t painted as yet.

I’ve a number of books covering the South West Pacific and have just finished reading ā€œThe Path of Infinite Sorrow.ā€

Ciao,

Helen

[QUOTE=Helen;163785]Hi Guys,

Hi Helen. I see your from Australia. Do You know RS?? Are you related to him? Did you train with him in the army???

Well, RS lives in Australia, Im not sure where, and he’s really cool and smart, although a bit pig headed at times, but I don;t let that get to me. He doesn’t really like Christmas from what I know about him but he seems to have been some type of officer in the Australian Seals. Today he is a Captain, although retired from the looks of it. He likes to talk a lot albeit longwinded but he has a great sense of humour.Although he may be an encyclopedia of knowledge, he doesn’t believe that we have the right to bear arms, which is an unusual stance for a person so interested in the war, and having fired many guns himself. I gues he’s a realist when it comes to safety or else maybe the Brittish colonial upbringing he had as a kid led him to not believe in the American right to bear Arms…
…He recently injured himself going down a waterslide and went to this jerk of a doctor that knows nothing and told him to go home and take an aspirin. When he does get mad he kicks file cabinets to relieve his stress, usually around the time he starts his holidays, injuring himself like the sadistic beast that he is. Im not sure if his daughters DOG caused him to injure himself on the waterslide but I bet it was. Last I heard his son didn’t make the cut for rifleman in the Australian reserves. Something about the army not wanting anymore combat troops in the army, or something like that…I will try and find a picture of him and post it and maybe see if you ever trained with him.Thx.

Greetings, all:

I decided to join this forum group to further my aircraft modeling resources, particularly in reference to World War II, of course. So I may be picking many brains here for information and pictures.

All the best from Massachusetts, USA

I was into the Civil War for a long time and then got into WW2. Two of my uncles were in, one in Submarine Service and the other in the Army. I found a pic of my one uncle with his uniform on and he had the Tank Destroyers patch on the sleeve. I read the book about them and then found the pic!
OK, how do I get his service records?? He has passed away so cant talk to him about his service. thanks JW
