New members topic- Introduce yourself here:

Hello, my name is lindy & i’m new at all this so bare with me. I have several friends that are wwii vets & several that are sadly no longer with us. What motivated me to join tonight, was that the anniversary of iwo jima is coming up here in a few days & i was thinking about my uncle, paul meinhard, who was a seabee on iwo jima. He passed away in 1982 & i wish i had found out more about him & his days as a seabee before his death. I do not even know what unit he was in. All i have is a letter he wrote to his folks from iwo with a hand drawn map of the island. I also have 2 pencil drawings that some one there drew of he & his buddy on iwo. I wish i could find out more from a fellow seabee vet or a relative of one like myself. I want to get as much info as i can & pass it onto my 2 sons who are 10 & 11. Thanx for reading this & any help & guidance you might be able to provide.

Hi;I am William Sraver a WWII veteran of the Seabees 127th USNCB also Pontoon Assembly Detachment#3 1943 to 1946.Served in Camp Peary,Va,Camp Holliday Miss.,Port Hueneme Calif. and Milne Bay New Guinea.
If I can be of any assistance, let me know what information you need.

Dear mr. Sraver,

thanx so much for getting back to me. My uncle, paul meinhard, was a seabee during wwii. All i know is that he was on iwo jima. I do not know how to begin to find out more (unit he was in, etc.). My friend’s uncle, lt. Jack bradford was a marine on iwo jima. For the past several years i have had the honor to accompany jack & his wife to an annual iwo jima memorial service & banquet at usmc camp pendleton here in southern california. Jack has told me many times how he & his fellow marines admired & respected you seabees. At last years memorial, we were able to meet an army air corp vet at the table right next to ours that was the co-pilot of the 2nd b-29 to land on iwo on the runway you seabees had whipped into shape while the battle was still going on. He knew, as we all do, that he & his crew (& many many more like them) would have crashed in the pacific trying to limp back to their home base. The name of his plane was “little jed”. The pilot’s wife had just given birth to there 1st child, a boy named jed, only a few months earlier. The co-pilot told us that “little jed” had grown to be a fine man & had just retired as a career officer in the air force a couple years back. Thank you mr. Sraver. You & your fellow seabees are responsible for many many stories like this all through the war. You & your generation stepped up & provided this great life myself, my wife & our 2 boys all enjoy here in the u.s.

Thanx again,
lindy

p.s. I’d love to hear about your experiences as a seabee mr. Sraver.

Good to meet you, Yorkshiress. This site is especially fun because you can meet and chat with folks from all over the world. I just got started in December, '09, and visit every day. Welcome from deep in the heart of Texas.

Since this is my first time posting I would like to say hello to everyone. I live in Kentucky but I was born in Germany and lived there for about 11 years. I have been building WWII German armor for about 20 years and know I am building WWII German aircraft especially the FW190 series of aircraft. Once again I am glad to be here. Thanks, Jim.

We have a welcome thread for all this. and what would ever lead you to put this topic in German Military?

Its quite obvious that I made a boo-boo. My bad.

Hello all. I was just doing a little research and stumbled upon this message board. I am a history nut, mainly a Nazi history nut. I am borderline obsessed with the Nazi government history from the start all through the finish of the war. It is not so much the war that interest me but the ongoing, never ceasing backstabbing that took place during the Third Reich. I have completed Inside the Third Reich by Alber Speer, and am currently in the middle of Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. Anything that I can get my hands on that has to do with these fascinating people I just soak up. I look foreward to many future discussions.

I’ve been reading this for a while. Just never registered. I am big into firearms. I lean more towards the WW2 stuff. Like most here I am also a big history buff. I enjoy reading the post by some very knowledgeable individuals and will try not to dumb them down with my thoughts unless it is firearm related

Hello, I’m fond of history, especially the history of WWII and everything connected with it (books, movies, games, etc.). I’ll be glad to share my preferemce3s and findings with you.

Richard Mathiason, here. I live in Belen, NM and have created a Blog in honor of my Father and the181st Engineer Heavy Pontoon Battalion. There was a journal given to my Dad after the war and so I scanned it and made a blog for it. I have also added apture links which you will see when you read it. The links have a small icon next to them and when you hover over them a window will come up and there will be more information about that word or phrase. I trust that you will enjoy it.

Thanks to my Dad and to all those that serve and have served.

Thank you, this is really great. Looked through with real interest. My grandparents also took part in the War. We mustn’t forget about those people who sacrificed themselves for the good or the future.

Panzerkid,

I am happy that you enjoyed it.

Richard

Hello everyone, I build 1:72 WW1 and also selected WW2/post war stuff. Came across this site when looking for pictures of the IAR-80, thought I’d join up.

Hi mate, welcome here!

Welcome, specialduties. You will enjoy the associations here.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I don’t actually have any WW1/WW2 photos to upload. Sorry!
